A versatile London based artist, with over twenty years experience. Combines both traditional and digital disciplines within his work. Using computer software Illustrator and Photoshop. Creating simple contemporary pictograms, icons, avatars, logos as well as brand/corporate identity icons. Ideal for information graphics, websites, packaging, editorial illustrations and advertising. Peter also creates storyboard illustrations, he uses pencil, brush pen, graphite, magic markers and computer software Photoshop in order to create his images.
Question: What drew you to illustration/design? Peter: I always had a natural ability to draw, from an early age. It always seemed like the natural thing to do. Question: Do you have any formal design training? Peter: Yes. I attended college in South Africa where I obtained a National Diploma in Graphic Design and of late I have graduated from the University of the Arts, London. Question: Where are you originally from? Peter: I was born in Britain of Greek Cypriot parentage, I then spent some time in South Africa and Cyprus. Question: Where do you live now & what drew you there? Peter: I live in London, as I was born here I wanted to return. Question: Where is your studio and can you describe it for me? Peter: My studio is at my home. Question: Who or What is your biggest inspiration? Peter: Travel. I draw a lot of inspiration from visiting other cultures, museums and galleries. Question: How do you get your ideas? Peter: From various sources, it could be a piece of scrap that I pick up or a photograph that I have taken. I always carry a small digital camera in my bag as well as a sketch book. Question: Do you collect anything? Peter: Books. I love to read. Question: Do you keep a scrapbook? Peter: Yes, it sort of crosses over towards a sketch book aswell.
Question: What are your interests outside of illustration? Peter: I guess it's all forms of art. It feeds and inspires my illustration practice. Question: Who is your illustration hero? Peter: John Holdaway, artist of Modesty Blaise. Question: Who is your design hero? Peter: Karl Schulpig for icons. Question: What do you say to people who say illustration isn’t really "Art"? Peter: They are just suffering from post-modernist envy. Question: What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given? Peter: Don’t give up. Question: What advice would you give to someone wanting to get into illustration? Peter: Don’t give up. Question: Do you have a method for dealing with the feeling of having no ideas? Peter: Yes, long walks and visiting galleries. Question: If you could travel back in time which period would you visit & why? Peter: The Renaissance period, possibly the most dynamic period in the creative process. Question: If you could travel back in time, who would be the one person you would want to meet? Peter: Rembrandt.
