In dieser Zeit habe ich mir auch mein erstes iPad, den Apple Pencil und Procreate zugelegt, was mir die Tür zur Welt der digitalen Illustration und zu einer ganzen Reihe neuer Möglichkeiten öffnete.\r\nHast du an der Hochschule Illustration studiert?\r\nNein. Es hat lange gedauert, bis mir klar wurde, dass ich mit Kunst und Illustration meinen Lebensunterhalt verdienen kann. Mir war nicht ganz bewusst, auf welche interessanten Weisen meine illustratorischen Fähigkeiten in verschiedenen Branchen eingesetzt werden können, daher begann meine Hochschulausbildung eigentlich im Bereich der klassischen Musik. Von da an nahm mein Leben einige unerwartete Wendungen, die mich schließlich dorthin führten, wo ich jetzt bin.\r\nWo bist du aufgewachsen?\r\nIch wurde in Japan geboren und bin in Brisbane, Australien, aufgewachsen.\r\nHast du eine Kindheitserinnerung im Zusammenhang mit Kunst, die dir besonders am Herzen liegt?\r\nAls Kind habe ich immer viel zu viel Zeit damit verbracht, meine Schulprojekte hübsch zu gestalten – zum Beispiel die Titelseiten und Rahmen – und darauf zu achten, dass meine Handschrift schön aussah – also genau die Teile, die, wie meine Lehrer oft betonten, eigentlich unwichtig waren –, weil das für mich immer der schönste Teil einer Aufgabe war.\r\nKannst du dich daran erinnern, wann du zum ersten Mal Kunst in einem kommerziellen Kontext gesehen hast?\r\nIch würde sagen, es waren wahrscheinlich die Illustrationen auf Müslipackungen, die ich mir als Kind beim Frühstück angesehen habe.\r\nWo lebst du jetzt und was hat dich dorthin gezogen?\r\nIch lebe derzeit in Sydney, Australien. Ursprünglich bin ich zum Studieren hierhergekommen und habe die kulturelle Vielfalt, das gute Essen, das Wetter und die Nähe zu Stränden und Bergen schätzen gelernt. Ach ja, und ich habe hier meinen Mann kennengelernt.\r\nBeschreibe uns doch mal dein Atelier.\r\nMein Heimstudio ist im Moment noch im Aufbau, da ich gerade ein Baby bekommen habe und meinen bisherigen Arbeitsbereich umgestalten musste, um Platz für all ihre Sachen zu schaffen. Allerdings entstehen viele meiner besten Arbeiten auch einfach so, wenn ich mich mit meinem iPad auf dem Sofa zusammenrolle.\r\nHast du ein Atelier-Haustier?\r\nIch wünschte, ich hätte eins! Ich hätte gerne irgendwann noch eine Katze.\r\nWer oder was ist deine größte Inspiration?\r\nMeine Mama! Wir sind charakterlich so unterschiedlich, aber ich habe immer zu ihr aufgeschaut und lasse mich ständig von ihr inspirieren. Als alleinerziehende Mutter, die zwei Kinder in einem fremden Land großgezogen hat, während sie sich gleichzeitig durch jahrzehntelange harte Arbeit eine beeindruckende Karriere aufgebaut hat und es dennoch schafft, eine freundliche, alberne und lebenslustige Person zu sein – sie ist der erstaunlichste Mensch, den ich kenne.\r\nWie verbringst du deinen freien Tag am liebsten?\r\nIch esse gerne gut mit meiner Familie oder engen Freunden und habe dann noch Zeit, an meinen persönlichen Projekten zu arbeiten.\r\nSammelst du irgendetwas?\r\nIch sammle auf jeden Fall gerne kleine Dinge, die mich an meine Reisen erinnern, sowie Schreibwaren und Tragetaschen.\r\nWas hörst du dir an, wenn du arbeitest?\r\nMeistens Musik, obwohl ich auch gerne mal einen guten Podcast höre.\r\nWas ist dein Lieblingszitat?\r\n„Gib dein Bestes, bis du es besser weißt. It was also during this time that I got my first iPad, Apple Pencil, and Procreate, which opened the door to the world of digital  illustration and whole bunch of new possibilities.\r\nDid you study illustration in college? \r\nNope. It took a long time for me to realise that I could earn a living through art and illustration. I wasn’t fully aware of the interesting ways in which my illustration skills could be put to use across various industries, so my tertiary education actually began in classical music. From there my life took a few unexpected turns, eventually leading me to where I am now.\r\nWhere did you grow up? \r\nI was born in Japan and grew up in Brisbane, Australia.\r\nDo you have a childhood memory relating to art that you hold dear? \r\nAs a kid I’d always spend way too much time making my school projects look pretty, like the title pages and borders, and making sure my handwriting looked nice - the largely unimportant parts, as often pointed out by my teachers - because they were always my favourite parts of an assignment.\r\nCan you remember when you first saw art used in a commercial context? \r\nI’d say it was probably the illustrations on cereal boxes that I’d look at while eating breakfast as a kid.\r\nWhere do you live now and what drew you there? \r\nI currently live in Sydney, Australia. I came here initially to study, and grew to appreciate its cultural diversity, good food, weather, and proximity to beaches and mountains. Oh, and I met my husband here.\r\nDescribe your studio for us. \r\nMy home studio is a work in progress at the moment, since I’ve just had a baby and I’ve had to rearrange my previous workspace to fit all of her things. I’d love another cat one day. \r\nWho or What is your biggest inspiration? \r\nMy mum! We’re so different personality-wise, but I’ve always looked up to her and am constantly inspired by her.
