Alyssa has a Bachelor degree in Fine Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and a Masters from Tulane University in New Orleans.

After first drawing a scene, for Alyssa the real work begins when she starts erasing elements of it. Leaving a trace of the structural element that was once there gives the viewer the chance to look inside the building, creating both intimacy and a sense of movement and life within the image. The layers will change and evolve as she develops her illustration, in a process that incorporates pencil drawings, Illustrator and Photoshop.

“I create imaginative structural spaces that have a life of their own and become one with the surrounding ecosystem of plants, animals and people,” explains Alyssa. Browse through her portfolio and you’ll see that she really does take architectural illustration to a new level. In so many examples in the genre, the people look like mannequins dropped in from another universe. In Alyssa’s work, they are looking at things, and you can see their reactions to the world around them. You won’t find any stock plant textures here, either – her illustrations have both life and feeling.
