Collage & Montage
A thousand snippets of fantasy.
In 1913, Picasso and Braque created the term collage from the French word "coller" (= to glue), describing a technique that still surprises us today with its versatility. The Dada movement took up collage art and added new elements to the cubist still life motifs. Max Ernst, for example, as a collage artist, created entire novels with surrealist collages of copperplate illustrations, which not only inspired a technical rethinking. Today, instead of using scissors and glue, photo collages and photomontages can also be created digitally, which either appear to be randomly pieced together in a classic way, or come together as seamless imaginative scenes.
