FOREAL are former media designers now completely concentrating on creating work in 3D. Their work incorporates all kinds of typographic solutions.
Question: What drew you to illustration/design? FOREAL: Taking some bypasses as a media designer and studied designer we turned our passion into our profession. Question: Do you have any formal design training? FOREAL: Not quite as we both studied graphic design. The enthusiasm for illustrious and 3D lettering was triggered by free work. Question: Where do you live? FOREAL: Our studio is situated in historic rooms of an old depot, in the heart of the oldest city in Germany, Trier. Question: Can you describe your studio for me? FOREAL: It features a casting sofa, a coffee machine, a board with design books and lots of retro-kitsch. The heart of our studio is a long wooden counter with our work places. Question: What is your biggest inspiration? FOREAL: Design trends, contemporary art and most of all the everyday stuff. Question: How do you get the best ideas? FOREAL: After getting up in the mornings, at sports, generally in those times that we don´t spent at the computer. Question: What technique do you use? FOREAL: We mostly start with analog or digital scotches. The elaboration is completely digital. Question: Tell us about a favorite project you have recently completed. FOREAL: We enjoy the free and non commercial projects the most. Question: Who are your illustration heroes? FOREAL: Bob Ross and Tom Finland. Question: Do you keep a sketchbook? FOREAL: Yes, too many and most of them uncompleted. Question: What are your hobbies? FOREAL: Besides bodybuilding and auto-scooter we don´t have any hobbies. Question: If you were not an illustrator, what would you be? FOREAL: Astronaut, firefighter or stuntman. Question: Who would you like to meet? FOREAL: Bob Ross. Question: If you could travel back in time, where would you go to? FOREAL: Back to the 80s and travel back to the future with Doc and Marty McFly. Question: What kind of music do you listen to? FOREAL: We are pretty open to a lot of different kinds like Hamburg school, jazz, indie over to electronic music. Question: What is the funniest thing you have ever done? FOREAL: Our former boss was on the phone with a client while we sat in the same room and he burped very loudly into the phone. The simple excuse was: "These things happen". Question: If you won the lottery, would you still work as illustrator? FOREAL: We don´t play lotto. Question: Do you collect anything? FOREAL: Experiences and skills. Question: Do you have a favorite game? FOREAL: The game with the crocodile.
