I am delighted you want to find out more about me personally, however please talk to my agents about commissions as they handle all of that for me. I look forward to working with you.
Matt Hollings In Colour

Matt Hollings In Colour

Matthew Hollings’ work bridges the divide between traditional draftsmanship and contemporary digital mark-making. Images initially start out as hand drawings before being scanned into the computer to be coloured and composed.

Influences are drawn from a range of subjects, often found in the content of his work. Matthew is equally as comfortable addressing mark-making challenges of portraiture to conceptual demands of narrative.

Matthew is a graduate of Camberwell College of Arts and currently lives and works in Manchester, UK.
Question: Do you have any formal design training? Matthew: Yes, I spent three years at Camberwell College of Arts. Question: Where is your studio? Matthew: I currently work from home but am looking to move into a shared space before too long. Question: Who/What is your biggest inspiration? Matthew: Life. Progress/regress. Question: Do you collect anything? Matthew: I have quite an obsessive personality so yes I do collect things. Particularly records, though I must confess this has slowed down during the past few years due to the fact that most of the music I listen to now is via an MP3 file.
Question: Do you keep a scrapbook? Matthew: Currently no, but I think I might start a digital one via the website Ffffound. Question: Tell us about a favourite project you've recently completed. Matthew: The album artwork for the band ‘Monster’s of Folk’ was a dream job for me. Not only have I always wanted to do an album cover, it happened to be for a band I have a great deal of respect for and one that I thoroughly enjoy listening to. Question: Who is/are your art/illustration hero/oes? Matthew: David Hockney, Ralph Steadman, Miroslav Sasek. Question: Who is/are your musical hero/oes? Matthew: Bruce Springsteen. Question: If you weren't an illustrator what would you be? Matthew: An Architect.
