Question: What drew you to illustration/design? Otto: I started drawing in early years. My first comic I drew when I was twelve years old. My interest in modern art grew and so I tried doing photorealistic paintings. But through my brother who is making films, I came to storyboards. Question: Do you have any formal design training? Otto: I studied design, main subject illustration. But I feel that I am mainly an autodidact. Question: Where do you live? Otto: In Berlin. Question: Can you describe your studio for me? Otto: Sterile. Question: What is your biggest inspiration? Otto: I think in films and imagine the images as a sequence. So films are my biggest inspiration. Question: What technique do you use? Otto: I used to try many different techniques. But now I work almost completely with the Wacom board and Photoshop. Question: Tell us about a favorite project you have recently completed. Otto: Any project has it´s challenges. Question: What would be your dream job/Commission? Otto: Advertising for perfume. Question: Who are your illustration heroes? Otto: They used to be Carl Barks, Helnwein, Chuck Close, Art Spiegelman, but now I don´t have any anymore. Question: What are your hobbies? Otto: Besides drawing as a job? Drawing! Question: If you were not an illustrator, what would you be? Otto: Probably I would have followed my parents footprints and would have become something scientific. Question: If you could travel back in time, where would you go to? Otto: I would much rather travel into the future. That must be exciting. Question: What kind of music do you listen to? Otto: Elvis Presley. Question: Do you have a favorite game? Otto: Chess.
