Yordanka has recently spent 3 exciting years in Bangkok, which was the starting point for her colorful and positive illustrations. She can present also little everyday life objects in a way that makes us look at them in a different light. Yordanka's love for fashion and enthusiasm shine through in every image. This way she develops her own iconography of fashion.
Question: What drew you to illustration/design? Yordanka: I spent three very exciting and enriching years in Bangkok from 2006 until 2009. I ´ve had quite some time and was able to dive into the atmosphere which, beside the fashion obsessed people lead me to illustration. Question: Do you have any formal design training? Yordanka: I am actually a product designer. Question: Where do you live? Yordanka: In Berlin, Kreuzberg. Question: Can you describe your studio for me? Yordanka: Heaped working-corner with all things at hand, all positioned and organized with Feng-Shui. Question: What is your biggest inspiration? Yordanka: Words you can feel. Urban life. Antique stores, other illustrators, colors, patterns and the drawings of my little son. Question: How do you get the best ideas? Yordanka: Lying down. Question: What technique do you use? Yordanka: I work with the Wacom tablet and illustrator. Question: What would be your dream job/Commission? Yordanka: I would like to put illustrations on furniture. Question: Who are your illustration heroes? Yordanka: I am a fan of Raymond Biesinger. And I like Miminne and Kavel Rafferty and Didier Cornille and others. Question: Do you keep a sketchbook? Yordanka: No, I don´t. Question: What are your hobbies? Yordanka: Music and basketball. Question: If you were not an illustrator, what would you be? Yordanka: Singer or psychologist. Question: Who would you like to meet? Yordanka: Miuccia Prada, Roisin Murphy. Question: If you could travel back in time, where would you go to? Yordanka: I am pretty happy with the time I live in. Question: What kind of music do you listen to? Yordanka: Jazz, Funk and Electro. Question: If you won the lottery, would you still work as illustrator? Yordanka: Yes. Question: Do you collect anything? Yordanka: Old machines, books and posters.
