Kákiri Kákiri

With Kákiri Kákiri, Gina invites readers into a vivid, meditative world where a hermit crab’s quiet search for a new shell becomes a striking metaphor for migration and belonging. Created in collaboration with Colombian author Velia Vidal and published by Penguin Random House, the book speaks to themes of fragility, resilience, and human connection. A girl collects shells while a kákiri wanders nearby - two lives moving in parallel, never quite meeting. Gina’s visual approach, combining hand-drawn ink work with layered digital textures, uses a controlled yet bold colour palette to evoke the lush Pacific coast while emphasising emotional nuance.
